Apple's latest release of iPhone version 2.2.1 that was introduced in January 2009 is not being viewed positively by user groups. Reason for this update not being so popular is due to the re-locking of previously unlocked iPhones.
Out of all the hot gadgets out there in existence, Apple iPhone is one of the most popular one. iPhone basically is a smartphone that is capable of offering web browsing functionality with internet connection. While an user can browse the internet with iPhone, it is a little difficult without a physical keyboard being present. However, it does have a touch screen keyboard that offers the same functionality of a physical keyboard and works just great.
iPhone not only offers the web browsing capability, it has some other cool functionalities such as camera phone, text messaging and voice mail, media player, etc. Email and web browsing is done though Wi-Fi internet connection.
iPhone is a proprietary hardware that comes with a sim lock in presence. With this locking feature, customers can only use the product by subscribing to a service authorized by Apple. This locking feature doesn't allow iPhone users flexibility as some users might want to subscribe to a service of their choice. Also, if a person is traveling with iPhone, the country of visit might not have iPhone authorized service provider meaning the phone is useless on the road. Keeping this in mind, there comes the need to unlock iPhone. With the latest Software release of iPhone 3G 2.2.1, all the previously unlocked iPhones were re-locked that currently cannot be unlocked by any software. Need to unlock iPhone 3G therefore is currently at large.
There are various types of restrictions and locking mechanism in place for iPhone. These locking mechanisms are iPhone activation, sim card restriction, and use of 3rd party applications. Out of all the proprietary restriction, sim card lock and forcing the users to go with Apple authorized service providers is the most critical one. There are various different groups of hackers online who were able to hack the iPhone and make it possible to let the users use the phone as they wish. However, with software version 2.2.1, this previously proven to work solution is no longer an effective method to unlock iPhone 3G.
With iPhone 2.2.1, users can now use Google Street View and download podcasts. While the new software update by Apple enhanced the user experienced, it at the same time made it more difficult for users to unlock iPhone 3G. This new release also fixed the issue of audio files being skipped while playing.
There are various websites out there that claim to be able to unlock iPhone 3G, keep this in mind that currently no software can unlock iPhone 2.2.1. Do your due diligence before paying for any such service. Do some research and identify a service provider who has proven track record of providing iPhone unlocking service.
